+++ Just one remembrance: David Westheimer passed away +++

Best-selling author David Westheimer, who began his writing career as a journalist for the Houston Post, died Nov. 8 in Los Angeles. He was 88.

Author of among others 'Von Ryan's Express' a novel incorporating
his WW2 experiences as navigator of 98BG/334BS aboard a B-24,
haven't read that book though ...

According to a different website first American Bomber shot down over Italy, by Macchi 202's on 11 December 1942. Supposedly they also shot down and killed their adversary, an Italian Captain and Ace pilot, before ditching in the bay at Salerno.

Maybe some questions:
-Serial of his downed aircraft? (Not in MACR database !)
-Name of that italian ace ?

LEST WE FORGET.

Have a nice day !

hello ,but
i havn´t read the book , but the Hollywood movie " von ryans express" was one of the worst "warmovie " i have seen so far.
i felt sorry for frank sinatra to took part as an actor in this movie :)
but probable he was a much better entertainer than a moviestar.
