Dornier Do 17 question

There are two photos of a Do 17 (coded T5 + NC) which crashed into the roof of a house in Flugzeug Foto-Archiv Band 3 (p. 84) and Band 6 (p. 99). It has DB 600 engines, short nacelles. The cockpit is badly damaged but there seems to be something (a loop antenna) on the left wing root so it could be an early Do 17. I'd like to know more about this aircraft. What version was it?

In fact it was a Do 215

It was a Do 215 that belongs to Aufkl (f) obdl probably.

The same picture appears on page 9 of "On Special Missions, The Luftwaffe's Research and Experimental Squadrons 1929-45" by Smith, Creek & Petrick, with the following caption:

"Despite having a group of very experienced pilots, the Aufklarungsgruppe Ob.d.L did suffer occasional accident. This Do215 coded T5+NC from the unit appears to have stalled short of the runway, crashing into the roof of a school building."

I'm afraid it doesn't look like a Do 215. It has DB 600 engines with prominent supercharger air intakes and short nacelles. The paintwork (overall RLM 02 with black areas behind the engines) would be very unusual for a Do 215. T5+NC could have been a Do 17R or a Do 17S.

Any chance of scanning the photo?

Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner. Maybe I could ask a friend but it would take a few days.

Re: Dornier Do 17 question

I found the answer this morning - in the last issue (No.7) of Luftwaffe im Focus. T5 + NC was a Do 17 R (one of only a handful built). It was painted RLM 02 overall with the engines, nacelles and the whole wing area aft of the engines painted black.
