3 Flying Training School- Harvard crashed in the Wash 1947-48

Guys, does anyone have the aircraft identity for a 3 FTS Harvard that crash landed in The Wash some time during 1947-48 approximately.

The aircraft was marked F-BUD, and a photo is on the web somewhere but no serial is showing. The Roundals are postwar type with narrow white circles

It is shown a bit bent in about a foot of water being inspected. The pilot is has been suggested had a name like Cohen, who disappeared after the accident and is believed to have drowned.

Larry,

British newspapers (online archives) of 19 Jan 1948 tell of a Harvard crash with missing pilot in The Wash the Friday before. Body apparently found only three months later, a Norfolk newspaper on 20 April 1948 writes.
Harvard was from RAF Feltwell.

Accident also here: https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/311622 I now found

Many thanks for your reply.

I can see how Kahan got to be 'Cohen'

Larry
If you wonder what F-BUD was all about it was the RAF Postwar Training and Reserve code used.

FBU was the code for 3 FTS and D was the individual aircraft letter.

Cheers

Stig,

Thanks for the info on the 3 FTS codes.

BTW - regarding 3 FTS Tiger Moths - photos of them seem to be non existant so any leads off the web greatfully received

Shame we cannot photo them on here anymore!

I read somewhere that the body of Cadet Pilot Richard Frank Kahan, aged 20, was found some months after he was posted as missing, presumed killed by 3 FTS RAF Feltwell, on 16th January 1948? True or False?

Two entries for 20 year old Richard Frank Kahan in the GRO death register January Quarter 1948, Kings Lynn.

So he has two death registry entries.

You can order these from the GRO for £7 each using the pdf delivery method. Takes about 4 days but these will clear up your questions.
