About Schack not improving. Often guys who suddenly improve in my opinion basically have not, they have merely found a way of fixing the system i.e "over-claiming", often after a transfer, or loss of "enablers" they revert back to "forced honesty" and far fewer claims. I believe Schack was honest, he also received several wounds, and was burnt with his face and hands at the end of the war.
