Lt Rudolf Bernd (FF) 6./KG 6 received the DKiG 17May43.

An Oblt Rudolf Bernd Stab I./KG 6 was KIA 18Jan43 (shotdown by a Beaufighter If flown by W/C Wight-Boycott 29 Sqn) whilst flying Ju 88A-14 (144349; 3E+BB).

My question is are these individuals the same. If so is the unit info for the award of the DKiG wrong?

Can anyone confirm the loss details for 18Jan43 (was Oblt Bernd the pilot?) and/or provide any more details of any further KG 6 aircraft losses after 18Jan43 involving a Rudolf Bernd that would prove they are different individuals.

Unlikely. I have Oblt Rolf Bernd with Stab/I KG 6 and Lt Rudolf Bernd with 6 /KG 6 so he would have had to have a rank drop and change of Staffel when he got the DKiG

Hi Chris,

I thought it unlikely but I know that errors are often made with units, ranks and names. In this case it appears I've got the wrong first name for Oblt Bernd of Stab I./KG 6
