Thank you for this opportunity to practice my Russian. :-)

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
It is an interesting document, but the published excerpt does not reveal that much... if anything really.

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
As this is an english language forum, I fail to see the relevance of this post.

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Hello VtwinVince,
When you download, after 20-30 seconds a "Translate" button will appear top right for the English version, but as Sidney suggests, it does not reveal much. Regards Peter |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good morning Slayer & Co,
as far as I understand the article doesn't reveal when Schellmann upgraded from Bf109C to Bf109D, does it ? Kind regards, Michael |

All I have is - There is a photo of Bf109C 6o47 with 1 kill marking on the tail. According to another profile I have, Schellmann flew one with those markings. If it is his, I don't know if he scored the kill in the 109 or not. He had 3 kills to 24/3/38 per the book link I gave in your Ensslen thread. I have a profile of Schellmann's Bf109C 6o47 captioned Spring 1938. His next kills are 13 June and 25 June 1938, and there is a profile of his D-1 6o51 (supposedly the first D-1 delivered to Spain) captioned June 1938 with 4 kill markings on the tail. Peter |

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good evening Peter,
if we take the info given in Robert Forsyth's "Aces of the Legion Condor" at face value Schellmann's Bf109C score must've been one (his 4th) because the subtype arrived at Spain in April (p93) wheras the D arrived "as spring gave way to summer" (p94). Schellmann's June Bf109D is depicted with 4 kill bars. Irritatingly, the 6-47 with one kill bar doesn't fit in. Either it was flown successfully by another guy or it arrived before April. Cheers, Michael |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
I shall take no credit for this, but 6-47 was a Bf 109 B, not Bf 109 C - the position of the oxygen filler and electrical socket on the starboard side of the aircraft under the cockpit reveals that. In fact, the Bf 109 C was probably never delivered to Spain, and the last Bf 109 B delivered to Legion Condor was 6-60.
6-61 to 6-86 were Bf 109 D-1s, and so was the case with the aircraft designated 6-95, 6-96 and 6-97. And all this discussion has little to do with the Interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann. |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good morning Sidney,
you mean the subtype designations given here https://books.google.de/books?id=dEn...llmann&f=false are wrong ? (6-1 to 6-3 V; 6-4 to 6-45 B; 6-46 to 6-50 C; 6-51 to 6-86 D; 6-87 to 6-131 E) I wonder if Schellmann was the top Bf109C pilot and if he ever mentioned that subtype. Kind regards, Michael |

And yes, we strayed off-topic. Apologies for that. Peter |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Hello,
if 6-47 isn't a Bf109C, isn't it Schellmann's machine either ? Michael |

Good afternoon Michael, What I am saying here is that based on the photographic evidence some correction to the above list would be in order. I would also propose that a new thread is opened in the pre-WW2 section, so we can discuss it further there. Regards, Sinisa |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good afternoon Sinisa,
Peter has opened the thread you propose. Maybe we'll succeed in nailing down Schellmann's Bf109C score. We'll keep at it. Best greetings from Brandenburg, Michael |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good Afternoon Michael,
That is great, I will try to provide the necessary photographic evidence to support my comments above. Best Regards aus Dublin, Sinisa |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good morning Sidney,
has Schellmann's Spain logbook survived ? Best greetings from the continent, Michael |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Yes, I have it, but regrettably no fuse codes were recorded

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good afternoon Fran,
does he mention the Bf109 subtype (B/C/D) in his logbook ? Kind regards from Brandenburg, Michael |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Hello,
No, only mention of the type Regards from Spain Fran Quote:

Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good morning Fran,
thanks for checking. Is the Spanish Civil War a special interest of yours ? Michael |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Michael: I think the country in which he lives and the badge on his posts are confirmation of where his interest lies!
|
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Yes, he mentioned his country.
I also just found the meaning of his badge. |
Re: Transcript of interrogation of Wolfgang Schellmann
Good afternoon,
this photo shows 6-47 with 1 kill bar. https://www.google.de/search?hl=de&b...=1536150221189 This photo shows 6-51 with 2 kill bars: https://www.google.de/search?q=wolfg...=1536150348568 Does that mean that Wolfgang Schellmanns' maximum Bf109C score is 2 ? (or 0 if 6-47 is a Bf109B?) Michael |
