DFS230 in tow. help with photo
1 Attachment(s)
Please help to ID this biplane that tows DFS230, what model is this? Looks like Fw44 to me. Photo was taken by DFS230 pilot from his glider’s cockpit somewhere over Ukraine, summer 1941.
Thanks in advance! Best regards, Alexander |
Re: DFS230 in tow. help with photo
To my eyes this rather looks like a high wing monoplane, or perhaps a parasol wing aircraft -essentially a biplane without the lower pair of wings. The parasol wing is not directly attached to the fuselage, but is held above it, supported either by cabane struts or by a single pylon.

Shame to me! You are correct! I have been doubt by empennage that from glider's cockpit looks like two lower wings.

Re: DFS230 in tow. help with photo
Yes, at first glance it would appear as a biplane, owing to the angle at which the photo was taken.

Re: DFS230 in tow. help with photo
But what plane is this anyway?

It may have been Heinkel He 46.

Alexander,
You are most welcome. Let's wait and see whether there are any other suggestions in this respect, before we can close the case. Regards, Sinisa |
