1944 RAF loss Beckum (Germany)
Dear all,
in a short german newspaper clip (Glocke, 1998) http://www.heimatverein-beckum.de/fi...a%20meldet.pdf it is stated that in 1944 a RAF a/c was downed 2.6 miles east/north-east to the city of D-59269 Beckum at location 'Flimmerberg' near 'Stromberger Strasse' road. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fl...er=0&entry=ttu The author states that he remembers the "pilot's"' coffin at the hospital morgue. Any hints to which RAF a/c was downed near Beckum ? 22/23.03.1944 Lancaster ND672 RAF 49 Sqn EA-U seems a possibility. However, this one crashed at 'Keitlinghausen' almost 2 more miles north-east from 'Flimmerberg'. thank you kindly ! FrankieS |

states that the rear gunner was the one fallen airman funeral-serviced at Beckum hospital morgue, so it was not a single crew a/c. (rear gunner of Lancaster ND672 was F/S J.N.E. Bennett RCAF A/G https://www.49squadron.co.uk/personn...ail/Bennett_J2 and he was also the only KIA identified at the times and buried in the city cemetery of Beckum, not as the unidentified KIA buried at the crash scene) |
