Hs 123 of the LG 2 in May 40
I am searching the name of the pilot and the location where a Hs 123 was shot down in May 1940. The aircraft was coded L2 + BN, was from the 5.(Schlacht)/LG 2 and apparently crashed in Belgium.
Thanks for your help. Rgds. |
Re: Hs 123 of the LG 2 in May 40
The only losses to that unit that I have listed both occurred on May 14, 1940, as follows:
5.(S)/LG2 Henschel Hs123. Shot down by No. 607 Squadron Hurricanes near Saint-Germain 10.55 a.m. Uffz Karl-Siegfried Lückel wounded. Aircraft a write-off. 5.(S)/LG2 Henschel Hs123. Shot down by No. 607 Squadron Hurricanes near Saint-Germain 10.55 a.m. Lt Georg Ritter believed wounded. Aircraft a write-off. |

And then there was the 5.(S)/LG2 aircraft that made an emergency landing south of Maastricht on May 11, pilot unhurt and unknown.
Could have been in Belgium. Regards, Pieter |
Re: Hs 123 of the LG 2 in May 40
Hi Peter & Pieter,
Thanks a lot. I saw a photograph of L2 + BN (undercarriage smashed) on e-bay sometimes ago and it was written on the back : Nivelles. On May 14, I know one Hs 123 landed on his wheels in a field between Jausselette and Aische-en-Refail near Perwez. So they were maybe the aircraft of Lt. Ritter and Uffz. Lückel. But who was in which aircraft ? That's the question... Rgds. |
