Re: Info needed on Me109 G-2 Trop W.Nr. 10842
The a/c was salvaged by Lz.2/108 trop (with 25% damage) and transported to LWZ 2 La Fauconnerie between 21.02.-28.02.1943. Because Lz.2/108 trop was based in January/February 1943 in El-Aouina it seems the a/c was given from there to repair factory in Europe or dismantled.

Britisch A.I.2(g) report quoted in and by Prien's JG77 gives: "nur Rumpfreste" (sic)
Does it mean "Tail only"??? But you're right Tail is part of Rumpf ... |
Re: Info needed on Me109 G-2 Trop W.Nr. 10842
Hi,
WNr. 10842 is listed in the original Allied report as: "Me 109 10842, Tail section only found." The location is given as Map Reference K. 0028, which, using a convertor provided by a colleague, should be 36.5572 N 10.0655 E, south of Mohammedia and quite some distance from El Aouina. If the aircraft was indeed found at El Aouina, it could not have been found on 29 April 1943, because Tunis and El Aouina did not fall until 7 May 1943. On 29 April the frontline was still some way west of Tunis and El Aouina. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com/earticles |

@ ouidjat,
"nur Rumpfreste" = only remains of fuselage. Best Regards Norbert |
Re: Info needed on Me109 G-2 Trop W.Nr. 10842
Norbert,
That's what I understood ... nothing about "tail" ... except if we consider that "Tail" is a fuselage remain; which is. Still, there is a difference between "only tail" and "only fuselage remains" ... A.I.2(g) seems to be a funny report: Not only dubious date/place as pointed by Andrew but, too ... for example; what about KN+CT, 18873 ? II./JG53, Grazzianniese, 9/9/43 or 10./JG27, 1944? Regards, Franck. |
Re: Info needed on Me109 G-2 Trop W.Nr. 10842
Thanks guys...
In this specific case, the entire fuselage was found (not just the tail), from firewall all the way back. So I think the report wording of "tail section" is a bit misleading... Mike |
