English pilots in Spain

Hi,

Were there any English pilots that took part in the Spanish Civil War ?

If so who were they ?

Thanks

Alex

Alex,

There were plenty, too numerous to list here. Try and get hold of a copy of 'The Flyers' by Brian Bridgeman (Self Published 1989) for the complete story. It is an excellent source on this topic. Hugh Oloff de Wet, one of the pilots concerned, also wrote 'Cardboard Crucifix' (William Blackwood 1938) an account of his experiences in Spain but that is a rare volume these days.

Agree with Peter. One who springs to mind was Aitken-Quack who flew as a Sgt with 609 Sqn in 1943 and was taken POW
