JG 54 losses, 12 January 1944

Günter Rosipal's JG 54 list shows for this date two 10./JG 54 losses (Uffz Leonard Gerkens MIA aboard Bf 109 G-6 WNr 140075 and Uffz Hans-Julius Nölke MIA abaord Bf 109 G-5 WNr 15966).
Both are listed as lost to enemy fire in Orianenbaum, but there was no raid on this area this day.

So one of the information (date, cause of loss or location) is probably false. Has anyone more about those losses ?

Thanks in advance

Laurent

I think it's Oranienbaum on the southern bank of Gulf of Finnland not far from Leningrad and Kronstadt.

You can see another Ostfront loss of 10 Staffel on January 26, 1944 (Siwerskaya) and two on December 20, 1943 (Dno).

So probably 10./JG 54 was on Ostfront at that time?

You're right, Andrey, for some reason I was thinking of a place near Berlin with a similar name (Oranienburg or something like that). Oranienbaum was the name of the Soviet pocket held along the Baltic west of Leningrad, so of course air combat could have taken place here.

Thanks
