French experts sought for German visual beacons
 

Dear friends,

Who can help me to find the locations of so called Leuchtfeur (German visual beacons) along the French coast between Cherbourg and the Belgian border ?

These were used as 'start line' for V-1 carrying He111's. Do you know whether there is a (German) map on which these positions are noted? I search for the positions of LF 201, 202, 203, 212, 303.

Hi Marcel.
I am kind of confused. To the best of my knowledge the KG units carieng V-1 were not stationed in France, but in Belgium, Holland an Germany and they used the Cyclop as a navigation aid. It would have been a round about and madness to fly to the French coast, where the allies had air superiority.

Do you have 'K' report 103/1944 for the Heinkel 177 shot down at Hammer Wood on the 1/2nd March 1944 ? The Appendix has a list of Nav. beacons which might help , if you have not got it let me know and I will e-mail a copy,

Hello Michäel and Brian,

Michäel: though the Staffeln of the III./KG 3 had (mainly) Venlo and Gilze-Rijen as operational base between July and September 1944, they often used Rosières-en-Santerre (SE of Amiens) and - a bit further SE) Roye-Amy as so called 'Absprunghafen' if targets like Portsmouth were choosen. For missions agains London, they used Venlo and Gilze-Rijen. It was not unusual that He111's took of from Venlo in the early evening to fly to Amy first, starting an air launch later that night.

Brian: your offer is greatfully accepted because I don't know this map at all. Apparantly it shows exactly what I am looking for, fingers crossed !
