Looking in Vol 2 of The Blitz Then & Now it would appear that Amode has a distinction of being a victim of the legendary 'Cats Eyes' Cunningham.
9./KG-27 He-111P-2 (1482) 1G+IT Shot down by Sqdn Ldr J Cunningham DSO DFC and Sgt C.F. Rawnsley DFM in a Beaufighter of 604 Sqdn. Crashed at Wheatsheaf Farm, Corton Denham, Somerset at 2245. Oblt H Zöllner, Uffz E Ehlers & Uffz F Pichota bales out and taken prisoner. Fw A Amode killed. Aircraft destroyed. Excavated by Perry Adams in December 1985 when small pieces of badly damaged airframe were unearthed. A manufacturer's plate bearing Wn. 1482 was also discovered to confirm the aircraft's identity. |
