Lysander victory

I am looking for any info on Westland Lysander victories

France 1940 I know they made a number of claims but the BOF doesn't have them downing anything

North Africa HMAW vol 1 It looks like on 16Nov 40 CR 42 MM5580 388 Sq/ 151 GrCT Ten Rammondo Sachette KIA was shot down by L4717/208 Sqn f/O LT Benson (P) Sgt Philips (G) WIA which was also shot down.

Finnish Air Force I think one of the Lysander did shoot down a VVS I-16.

Any more info.

Re: Lysander victory

I think the Lysander shot down on 16Nov40 was L4714, not L4717.

Interesting Andy

I have L4714 and L4717 shot down by Italian fighters 15 Oct 1940

On 16 Nov 1940 I have L4686 as being the one lost. At least I have corrected my MAW Vol 1 stating that....

Cheers

Stig,
Whoops, must have had a bit of a brain f**t.
L4714 shot down 15 Oct 40: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C16687886
L4717 - I think this was originally quoted as the 15 Oct 40, but then replaced by L4714. The summary of events only records one loss on this date:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8393187
L4686 shot down 16 Nov 40: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C16688360
Sorry for the confusion.
Andy

Re: Lysander victory

No worries Andy

I based the losses of L4714 and L4717 on Air Britain's RAF Aircraft booklets where both these
Lysanders are noted as lost on 15 Oct.

If only L4714 was lost on that date, what happened to L4717?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Lysander victory

thanks for the info. I made a post on the axishistoryforum.com Finland sub section.

On 3 sept 1941 FAF Lysander LY-121 crew SSGT E Pakarinen (P) & PFC S Pesu (G) was FTL and both lightly wounded by I-16s of 155 IAP flown by Major DS Shpak and Lt VA Martynov. Martynov was LIA by return fire and his I-16 crashed. He had 2 victories and was pousumously awarded the Order of Lenin. The I-16s were returning from a raid on Vasrsila airfield where Blenhiem BL-139 was burnt and Blenhiems BL-142 and BL-143 were damaged.
