Trying to ID KG 27 He111P with nickname on the fin ROTE MOHLE
 

Hello,

Has anyone been able to put a Staffel or a/c code with the photos of an He111P of KG27 with an image of a windmill chalked in white on the fin and the name ROTE MOHLE across the bottom of it? At least one photo of this image with flak damage to the rudder has appeared on eBay, and two other photos have been published in Weiss, KG27, Vol III.

Wouldn´t this be rather "ROTE MÜHLE" or "Red Mill", which almost certainly refers to Paris cabaret "Moulin Rouge" - maybe the dream of every young soldier in 1940?
May also be a play with words as "Mühle" in the meaning of a ramshackle plane - in this case from a II./KG 27 or 2./,5./ or 8./KG 27 according to the colouring.
Just a thought...

Roland, I suspect that you're right about the meaning.

Goran: I've tried to send you a direct email but it keeps bouncing. I'd like to obtain a copy of the photo that you refer to of 1G+ML with the fuselage damage. Would you be willing to send me a copy to my regular email address?

I have this a/c as unidentified within my archive, do you have any dates or crewnames for this incident.

Hi guys,
It is a set of two old ebay photos showing battle damage to a He111, one of the tail and another showing the fuselage only. Both photos show battle damages and offered by the same seller at the same time and photos taken in the same environment why I have it listed as per my post above. Not 100% proof would be what an attorney would claim at court but the closest I've got so far on this elusive bird. I have no problems sharing them with you but I'm a bit surprised you can't reach my private email as I get advertising dropping in every day......I've on the other hand have had difficulties logging on to my private mails from home the last week and I'll working on getting a faster IT line.
