Info on belly-landed Bf110 of Oblt. Walter Barte II./NJG1?
Dear all,
Recently, a photo of a belly-landed Bf110 of II./NJG1 coded G9+FM, reportedly flown by Oblt, Walter Barte, was sold on Ebay. I've not been able to find details on the date/location etc of this incident, and also if it was indeed flown by Barte. Who can help? Cheers and thanks for any details, Theo |

In the Gen.Qu. loss report from 30 November 1943 is listed:
25.11. 5./NJG 1 Heimatverlust Ort: bei Fl.Pl. St. Trond, Ursache: Flugzeugbrand in der Luft Bf 110 E-2 4450 100% F Obgfr Konrad Steyer + Bf Obgfr Josef Krieger + Regards Leo |

The loss listed above for 25.11.1943 is a 100% loss, this could not be the requested belly landing from the photo.

Thanks for your contributions but, indeed, these loss details for 25.11.1943 do not fit to the belly-landed Bf110, which was apparently only slightly damaged in the belly landing. Another theory about the identity of the aircraft in question G9+FM is that it may have belonged to ZG1; the aircraft is obviously painted in daylight camo (not NJ black), the 'F' is outlined in white paint, and if I'm correct, ZG1 bore the same Verbandskennzeichen (G9+) as NJG1 prior to being transferred into the infant Nachtjagd arm in June 1940. Perhaps this theory can be proved right, if someone could confirm that Barte served with ZG1 prior to becoming a Nachtjäger in II./NJG1 -on the backside of the photo it is clearly stated 'Barte Bauchlandung', or 'Barte belly-landing'.
Cheers, Theo |
Re: Info on belly-landed Bf110 of Oblt. Walter Barte II./NJG1?
Hello Theo,
As I have databases on the Bf110-losses AND II./NJG 1 claims, I can see that Barte was with the II./NJG 1 at least as early as 15 September 1941 till 17/18 August 1943. So if he made a belly landing some day in between, I lcan look for all belly landings with the Stab II./NJG 1 (where Barte started) and 4./NJG 1. In these many months of 1941-1942-1943 equally many belly landings were made without info about the crew involved. So I guess other details ON the photo might give a clue where G9+FM belly landed. To make things worse, I do also have some G9+FM incidents recorded before Barte was involved with the II./NJG 1: 14 Dec.1940, Petten, 20% (I must look in the RLM-page if it was just Beschussschaden) 1 May 1941, FlH.Bergen, Bedienungsfehler, 40% Perhaps you better contact me off board, all the best, Marcel |

This picture of a crashed G9+FM was published in 2000 in "Vinnige Valken, Vlammende Bliksems" at pag 206 by Christiaan Vanhee and Peter Celis.

Hello Jaap -thanks for that, this is the photo that was recently sold on Ebay! The caption in the book unfortunately does not give a date/location.
Best regards, Theo |
