Luftwaffe A310 Multi Role Tanker Transport
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
Sorry I've joined this forum to get a bit of info on something I saw this morning. I'm from South Africa and have always been a huge war of pretty much every war, favourites being WW2 and the Cold War. Now this morning at about 9am I saw a Luftwaffe A310 MRTT here at one of our airports in Cape Town... The name of the plane was August Euler. It had a full crew in uniform and left the airport a few hours afterwards. As far as I know, the Luftwaffe was disbanded in 1946 after WW2 so seeing this plane has confused me a bit. I was wandering if anyone here maybe knows what they are up to and if you can maybe explain why they are active here? |

The "old" Luftwaffe ceased to exist when the war ended. The Federal German Republic was constituted in 1949 and there's been a "new" Luftwaffe since 1956: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Air_Force |

But only the few MoD Transport Wing's a/c have the lettering "LUFTWAFFE" on the fuselage. All other (tactical) a/c have the typical Luftwaffe-style individual markings. Greetings Horst Weber |

It appears that Germany and South-Africa conduct naval exercises every other year under the name Good Hope.
Number VI is scheduled for 2014, so you may see more German military aircraft in Kaapstad/Cape Town in the near future, with or without the name Luftwaffe... Regards, Leendert |
