MACR Notation ?
 

Hello,
In an MACR hand written annotations made beside both pilot and Co-pilot.
What is (N.AG) an abbreviation of ?

(N.AG) would I think normally mean Nose.Air Gunner or perhaps Navigator Air Gunner ?
But as said this refers to both pilot and Co-pilot, who were first (MIA) then (N.AG) finally both returned (.Rtd).

It could also be "Not a Gain" but it was as they both returned.

I think it might be "N.AF" or "N.AFo" or N.AFr" meaning "Now (in the ) Air Force". Both of the men Rodreick and Zukowski went on to serve in the Air Force (which became a separate service in 1947). Rodreick retired in 1960 and Zukowski served in both Korea and Viet Nam.

For those without Fold3 access, here is a description of what is on the MACR page.

The notation appears to relate to a column headed "Current Status". All of the nine men (three officers and six enlisted men) originally had MIA (typed) in that column. All of the men have the notation RTD (Returned to Duty) hand written in the right margin of the page. Then for five of the nine men listed, someone, at some point went back and wrote "N.AF" in front of the MIA for the pilot and co-pilot and for three of the enlisted men actually crossed out MIA and wrote in RMC (Returned to Military Control) in front of the crossed out MIA.

Thanks for the info , looks right, I have not come across that before . A late numbered MACR would explain the extra penciled in remarks.

I doubt it is the case.
RTD - returned to duty basically has same meaning as Now in the Air Force.

I guess it could be something else, ie transit through North Africa.
I don't know their case, maybe it could be helpful where did they go.

Was first thought to read as N.AG so perhaps N.AG or N.AF ?
In the MACR the " . " shown could well be interpreted as a lower case "o" perhaps which could then show the "No" which could read as a "No" or an abbreviation of "North".
The search for the full interpretation is perhaps still open.
