Do217 5461 Dieppe Raid
Do217 5461 from 5./KG2 was lost during Dieppe Raid on 19/8/42.
I had the pilot as Ltn H. Anders, but looking through POW reports in document AIR40/2410 got at Kew, the pilot is noted as being Ltn Andres. Is this a typo? Curiously the survivor Uffr Deubler is listed as being from 2./KG2 not 5.Staffel? Which is correct? Any clarification to the above gratefully received. Thanks. Regards, Steve |

Lt Ernst Andres and Uffz Vitus Deubler. Balke has Andres uninjured, Gohr and Baumgart POW and Deubler missing!

Re: Do217 5461 Dieppe Raid
Hi Gents, thanks for both those.
I have for 5461; Ltn E. Andres (Pilot)- Recovered (corrected from Anders) Ofw Harry Gohr (Obs)- Killed Uffz Titus Deubler (BM)- POW Uffz Warner Baumgart (R)- Killed In his POW report Uffz Deubler reported the pilot killed and Observer and Radio operator pressumed killed. Also it incorrectly identified his unit as 2./KG2. Sadly I've not been able to identify which Allied naval vessel picked him up. Regards, Steve |
