Stanley W. Vejtasa
 

Hello!

I have one little question about this pilot.
In Olynyk´s Stars & bars is that he was born in Montana. But in one czech source I find that he was born in Czechoslovakia and then his family moved to USA.

Can somebody help me with this?

The 1920 Census report (at Ancestry.com) for McCone County, Montana shows SW Vejtesa's father John as born in North Dakota, and both his parents born in Bohemia, speaking Moravian. It shows his mother Inga as born in Minnesota, and her parents as born in Norway, speaking Norwegian. First daughter Mildred born in North Dakota, then Stanley, John and Francis (2nd daughter) all born in Montana.

The 1930 census (still McCone County, School District 1) shows the father John as born in North Dakota, but that his parents were born in France (language spoken not recorded in the 1930 census). Inga is still born in Minnesota, with parents born in Norway. Mildred is not living at home. Children Stanley, John, Francis, Frank and Eugene all born in Montana.

The 1940 census will not be released until 2012.

I thinked when he realy was born in Czechoslovakia that we will more infos about this in Czech sources :)

Michal,

The army enlistment records (also) show an Eugene E. Vejtasa, perhaps a brother of Stanley.

Eugene was born in Montana in 1926 and lived in McCone County (MT) when he was drafted in 1944.
