I search information about Lt. Kurd GMELIN, who was part of I./ZG I in April 1944 :

- date of birth ?
- was he "Staffelführer" of a Staffel in this Gruppe in April 1944 ?
- was he, later, promoted Hauptman ... and to higher ranks ? if yes, when ?
- was he appointed to other units after April 1944 ?
- claims from December 1943 ?
- fate in the course of the war : PoW ? WIA ? did he survive the war ?

Sorry, my finger has slipped : the first name of Lt GMELIN is "Knud" and no "Kurd"

Gmelin was killed on 9 June 1944. His Ju 88 was hit by AA fire over Normandy during an early morning mission against the Allied landing and he was wounded, but managed to reach German lines before crashlanding. His crew brought him out of the wreck but he died the same day in an hospital.
