Can anyone identify the name on the nose or the identity of this Mustang? P-51B with victory markings, 8th AF?

That's a very interesting one. Kill markings for ETO but noseart looks very Pacific ..... but AFAIK the 8th only flew P-47s in the Pacific.

It's P-51B 42-106712 FT-I "Hotei II" of Lt Don McDowell, 354FG, 353FS, 9th AF.

Hello,

according to the MACR 5133 1st Lt Don McDowell O-744728 was lost with this aircraft on 28 May 1944.
In Ivo De Jong "Mission 376" is noted:
mechanical troubles, crashed in North Sea. His Body was washed ashore in England in the second half of July and was buried at the American Military Cemetery in Brookwood.
