Fw 190 A-8 Rudi Artner

Hello Everybody,

For a modelling project I'm looking for pictures of Rudi Artner's Fw 190 A-8 he flew in 1945 while with 9./JG 5.
Till now I just know one picture of his aircraft, which shows him sitting on the rim of the cabin.
You can see the white 10 and the "Eismeer" insignia.
Does anybody have a picture of the whole aircraft. I need to know if the plane has a white ring around the cowling and if the bottom of the cowling is yellow. Also I'm interested in details on the tail section of the plane. Did it feature the black/yellow fuselage band and where there any kill bars on the rudder?
Is the Werknr. 732197 correct?
Hope someone can help me here.
Thank you in advance.

Matthias

Matthias,

I attach some pics, hope this helps. White 10 and W-Nr. seem correct. Remark sort of a new bubble canopy on pic 1.

All the best, Horst

Hello Horst,

Thank you very much. That was exactly what I was looking for.
Unfortunately I can not open picture #1. I will try again later.

Doe's anybody have additional pictures of Artner's aircraft?

Many thanks,

Matthias

Hello Horst,

Just managed to open the first picture.
I don't know if this is really Artner's white 10 in picture 1.
In the picture I mentioned, where Artner is sitting on the rim of the cockpit, the aircraft has the standard A-8 canopy. Also the Balkenkreuz on the fuselage is white and not black as in picture 1. On the other hand the white disc on the fuselage indicates a third Gruppe, of which 9.Staffel is a part of...

Aviation artist Mark Postelthwaite did a painting/print called Eismeer over Herdla which is absolutely stunning IMO, white 10 is featured and signed by Artner.
Google it and have a look

Hello Matthias

Here is a good profile from a reliable source: the Norwegian author, artist and scientist Kjetil Aakra.

Thanks Marty,
Thanks Chris,

I thought that white 10 would look like in the profile. But now we have two white 10's.
The one from picture #1, which is also featured in the painting and the one in the profile.
Kjetil Aakra mentioned the book from Mr. Rodeike on the Fw 190, which he used as a source on white 10. Some pictures of white 10 should be in this book.
Does anybody have this book? Are the pictures the same as the ones posted above?

Hi all.

Here are the photos published in the Fw 190 book mentioned.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3..._White10_2.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3..._White10_3.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3..._White10_4.jpg

And a somewhat better and much more recent profile that didn't make it into the book I and Andreas Brekken recently released:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3...JG5_Artner.jpg

Hope this helps you, Matthias.

Please note that the other "White 10" with he blown canopy has not been positively associted with Artner, so if you want to model his aircraft I'll go with the other one.

This is the Postlethwaithe print:

Note that even though the fuselage cross is not filled in and the canopy is blown it is supposed to be the one with victroy markings!

Best regards,

Kjetil Aakra

Maybe the 2 attached pics of "White 7", flown by Uffz. Hellwig at the same time, can help in your search.

Hello Everybody,

Thanks for your quick help. I guess with this pictures I can identify all details, which I was uncertain of.

I already did one model of white10 in 1/32 scale, which seems pretty correct regarding those pictures.

But for my new project I wanted to be sure about the appearance of white10, which is now confirmed.

Thanks again everybody,

Matthias
