Does anyone know what might have happened to the machine gun from the above crash which used to hang in the Officers' Mess Bar at RAF Coltishall?

'Aces High' Gallery in Wendover, Buckinghamshire have on display a slightly damaged machine gun mounted on a wooden board. From memory I recall that a brass plaque stated that the item was originally taken from a Dornier aircraft which was subsequently displayed at RAF Coltishall.

Whether this is one and the same I do not know. Next time I am in Wendover, I will make a point of looking it up.

Regards Richard.

Thanks Richard. I might ask is how is property of RAF Coltishall and 68 Sqn now there?

Just spoken to Aces High. The gun is there and is on permanent loan from someone in 68 Sqn. Interesting as 68 Sqn disbanded in 1959 and I am not convinced that the Association is still in existence.

68 Sqn Association is still in existence and when Coltishall closed, they kept the gun and it is on permanent loan to the Gallery (family connection with the Chairman I think). When the Association eventually folds, the gun will go the RAF Benevolent Fund (?)

I am quite suprised about that. What exactly will the RAF Benevelont Fund do with it? I would not of thought they were in a position to display it?

Regards Richard.
