To be truthful, these photos of interesting condensation clouds that form around jets as they fly at sonic speeds (often called "going through the sound barrier" or "accelerating past the speed of sound") are not actual proof of the breaking of the sound barrier.
Under the right conditions, they sometimes cause a vapor cone effect.
These Prandtl-Glauert condensation clouds can also occur at lower speeds also, and really arn't a visible manifestation of some kind of a sound barrier being broken.

Did Germany break the sound barrier with a ME 262?

Here is a link below to this story and it is very interesting believe me.

We have a restored ME 262 at Willow Grove Naval Air Station in PA. It was completely taken apart and used to make the blue prints and reproductions now being made in Washington State.

This was the agreement, they would restore this beautiful plane and they could keep the blue prints for 5 reproductions they making there. One flew over Berlin in the 2005 Air Show, the first time since the war. Messerschmidt purchased one of the first to be completed and they had it at the air show in Berlin. There are links to see this if you would like to see it fly let me know.

Re: Breaking the sound barrier

Wow PA. That is one great site. I've gotta thank you for this mate.
Maybe old Chuck wasn't the first after all. Looks like that Me-262 must have gone pretty close.
Every article on the site was very informative especially the British bit.

I've got some great pics of 262s I like to put up but I've run out of attachment allowance.
