Re: P-40 photos 8-4
Hi Ed. The P-40K no.171 is "Evelyn II" flown by E W Richardson in 1943 ( 75/23) before the group moved their numbers to the tail, added a white tip to spinner ( squadron colour) and his 2 squadron leader's bands; the re-painting covered the 75th shark badge on the fin.
The star insignia ( no bars) was top left-bottom right only. Just visible is the second bomb shackle underneath. Nick |

Thank you Nick.

Re: P-40 photos 8-4
Hi Ed. The 3 P-40s are quite likely from Sixth AF in Panama, a couple of squadrons had white fin tips as here ( the P-40E is still in RAF camouflage and has what could be the 29FS insignia). The P-40Cs were delivered in OD/NG.

Re: P-40 photos 8-4
I agree with the 6th AF since the only (partly) readable serial number is from a P-40C
Some 62% of the C production was assigned to units in the "Caribbean" area. Unfortunately the one which I read as 41-13335 (last digit could be a 6 or a 9 as well) is not on Dan Hagedorns list of assigned aircraft.... I am no good really with the other of Nick's interpretations, so no opinion, but it is an interesting and largely forgotten US Army Air Force. Cheers Stig |
