B 29 in Europe
Hello,
My father who was in the Armée de l'air at this time told me he saw in 1946 at Bordeaux-Merignac airfield a "very big Boeing bomber" he called "Boeing 2". I think that was one of the few B 29 sent ito Europe after the end of the war. What do you think ? Thank you Alain |
Re: B 29 in Europe
The RAF did receive some after the war and called it the Washington B.1.

Thank you ED, I know for the Washington but I need informations about USAAF B 29 visit in Europe in 1945 or 46.

Re: B 29 in Europe
Who Fears? The 301st Bomb Group in Peace and War, 1942-79, by Kenneth Werrell, has some interesting material on the first post-war B-29 deployments to Germany (before the "official" return of US bombers to bases in England).

Alain
The USAAF had a few B-29s tour Europe already in late 1945. 44-61679 (a B-29A) visited at least Denmark, Sweden, Norway and probably UK with a two day stop over at Bromma (Stockholm airport) between 27-29.9.1945. I know there were other B-29s as well, so this may not have any connection with your father what so ever... Cheers Stig |

Re: B 29 in Europe
TB-29 45-21812 was the first ELINT B-29 deployment to Europe, operating from Frankfurt and Mildenhall starting in September 1947.
