US Naval Air Stations

Hi,

I'm going through the aircraft history cards for the BF2C-1. In a number of them there is mention of Norfolk and San Diego Bat. For.

Now I understand Bat. For. means Battle Force. Can someone explain what Norfolk/San Diego Battle Force was/is? Were these stations also used for repairing major damage to aircraft?

For example I have BF2C-1 BuNo 9588 as being received by VB-5B on 10 Nov 1934. It then went to San Diegi Bat For on 16 Apr 1935 and then back to VB-5B on 30 Oct 1935. On 28 Mar 1935 it suffered a major accident so I asume it was shipped to San Diego for repair.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Alex

Alex,

Perhaps you're interested to look around a bit on this website: http://www.oldairplanepictures.com/bfc-2-2bomb.htm

It (also) gives histories of individual Goshawks...
