Hello,

Is anything known about a Ar 66 C, W.Nr. 1218. Remains of it were found at Cīrava airfield in Latvia.

Possibly a NSGr 3 or 12 aircraft?

This aircraft was part of 1./Störkampfgruppe Luftflotte 1 when it crashed due to pilot error on 30-Jul-43 at Shary, damaged 50%. Uffz. Otto Böhm was injured. Previously registered as: D-ISOR.

Norbert

D-ISRO is correct. It was used in March 1939 bei FFS A/B Neukuhren.

Re: Ar 66 C, W.Nr. 1218

Thank you all for the information you provided. Below is a summary for Ar 66 C, W.Nr. 1218:

Originally marked as D-ISRO:
- 9/1937: Based at Elbling
- 9 to 11/1937: In repair shop at Industriewerk Heiligenbeil
- 3/1939: With FFS B Neukirchen or FFS A/B Neukuhren?

Marked as WL-ISRO:
- 10/1939: With Schule / FAR 10

Marked as WL+517:
- 8?/1939: With Akaflieg Danzig

Marked as ?:
- 7/1943: With 1./Störkampfgruppe Luftflotte 1
- 30 Jul 1943: Crashed due to pilot error at Shary, damaged 50%, Uffz. Otto Böhm injured

1./Störkampfgruppe became NSGr.1 in October 1943. They stayed in Russia until early summer 1944 and then moved to Latvia, where they soon converted to Ju 87. Since the plate was found at Cirava airfield, Latvia, I assume the Ar 66 was repaired after the July 1943 crash in Russia and abandoned or destroyed later around early summer 1944.

Is there anything in the loss lists about W.Nr. 1218?

Regards,

Roger

typo: Elbing not Elbling

... and if I write Neukuhren then I mean Neukuhren (this fits with Sch/FAR 10 too) ...

Thanks. I was not sure regarding Neukuhren vs. Neukirchen because a 2nd source stated Neukirchen and not because I had doubts with your information.
