Do217K-1, WNr.4446 of KG2

1 Attachment(s)
Hi!

In the Warpaint Series book (#24), by Jerry Scutts, it appears a photo of a Do217K-1 WNr.4446 of KG2 (p. 22). This aircraft has one large individual code letter "G" (perhaps in yellow) on the rudder. Does not have others code letters.

Which gruppe and staffel it belonged? Any information about the crew and date will be very useful too.

Thanks a lot!

Franklin

As far as loss info is concerned, not a KG 2 machine.

The only thing I have for WNr. 4452 is a photo from a Japanese photo compilation 'Warbirds Photo Album #2' on p.118 which shows the front quarter/third of the machine with the WNr. under the cockpit.

I have 3 'U5+GL's documented from losses:

Hi Jim,

In this photo the Holzhammer badge is visible? it is identified with the gelbe G in the rudder?

Cheers,
Franklin

Re: Do217K-1, WNr.4446 of KG2

No, it isn't. Also not identified as 'G'. Then again, I don't think the badge was worn by many of the KG 2 machines at this time, especially those that had the lower 2/3s of the machine painted black. Its entirely possible it was a KG 40 machine. With no specific loss reported for the plane it's hard to tell with any certainty beyond the photo caption. And there's no certainty that the caption is correct unless the location is named, but, if there, it's in Japanese..........
