So, what exactly is "JFV"?

gang

I keep seeing people referring to JFV from Jochen Prien. Sorry to seem like a dull, monolingual type of fellow, what exactly IS this book/book series/etc?

How is it organized (I keep seeing reference to 'Teil' and 'Teilband' and a random translation just calls it 'part' IE: Teil 1 = Part 1) and what is supposed to be/have/describe?

Thanks, ahead of time

NM

The easiest thing is to look up Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945.

This range of books were initially published by Struve's Buchdruckerei but from Teil 11/II he switched to Buchverlag
Rogge GmbH

To get an idea of the magnitude of Jochen's bold undertaking look at this site.
https://www.vdmedien24.de/Prien-Buchverlag-Rogge
Not all the books are listed, but a fair number.

So far 31 volumes has been published (the latest is Teil 15/I) and I think most of us are eagerly waiting for
Tel 15/II!

Quite frankly it is an amazing undertaking/achievement from the team led by Jochen Prien

Cheers

If you take a look at the sub-forums under the 12 o’clock high “Books and Magazines” section, you’ll see one headed “Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934–1945” and that’s what everyone’s on about — a monumental undertaking by Jochen Prien.

Jagdfliegerverbände (=fighter units) gets shortened to JFV, i.e. the initial letters of the three words which make up the compound noun (which are a big feature of German).

The whole series is broken into numbered volumes (e.g. on a theatre of operations or timeframe) and some of those volumes take up more than book.

So: Band (plural Bände) = a volume which may consist of several parts or Teile (singular Teil).

Wow. A year by year, month by month breakdown of the fighter force by staffel/gruppe?

..more or less. One more volume and then the authors are into 1945.
