Send Her Victorious by Michael Apps

Can someone who has, or has read this book, please tell me how detailed the coverage of air operations is in it, particularly in regards to Operation Pedestal?

Thanks in advance!

Steve,
Consider it more of an overview of the carrier in combat, rather than a detailed account of the aircrew combat report.
Chapters:
1. Legend is Born (p19)
2. The Bismarck Chase (p37)
3. Kirkenes and Petsamo (p52)
4. North Russia Convoy duty (p60)
5. Malta Convoy (p85)
6. The Invasion of North Africa (p100)
7. Pacific Interlude (p113)
8. Operation Tungsten (p126)
9. The Eastern Front (p143)
10. The British Pacific Fleet (p157)
11. Palembang (p166)
12. Operation Iceberg (p185)
13. The Desperate Days to Peace (p204)
14, 15, 16 ...post-war (p217 - 245)

As for the Pedestal Convoy, very few aircrew are mentioned by name with respect to air-to-air combat, though some of the Albacore crews serving in action stations onboard the carrier are detailed in descriptions.

...geoff

Thank you very much, Geoff! Exactly the info I was hoping to find out before making a decision to purchase it.

A very late reply and hopefully you have bought it. I started my interest in the Fleet Air Arm buying this book seems like a hundred years ago. I went abroad and sold my collection twice but couldn't part with this book which was packed away. As I write this it's in a box at my feet (the spine is broken) while I research Fulmar claims. It is a charming book and my affinity with HMS Victorious in all her former and later versions have and will be coloured by this text.

regards

Keith

Thanks Keith!

No, I haven't bought it yet. Price went up for the copy I was looking at, then I got distracted and purchased about ten other books. I'll start checking prices on this one again later today.

I know what you mean about how a book can spark a life-long passion for a particular ship, aircraft type, or unit. Happened to me when I first read Stafford's The Big E around 1977. A year or so later I was introduced to a friend of my grandfather's who had served aboard her. Good memories...
