Another Nut To Crack

Dear Laddies and Myladies,

here comes just another nut to crack:

4.5.1944, Ju 88 G-1, W-Nr. 710589, II./Stab NJG 3, from Langendiebach on a check-flight, crashed at Mittelgründau, due to mid-air collission with glider Mü 13 D-3, Werk-Nr. 1544, Kennung WL XII-73.

KIFA: Hptm. Falk Willis (pilot of the Junkers) and Uffz. Hans Schreiber (glider-pilot).

For that a Ju 88 - as far as i know - never was flown without a second assisting crewmember leads me to the question: Anyone having infos to other flying personnel aboard the Ju 88 (names, fates etc.)?

This mIght be a long shot - i know.

Best Regards
Norbert

Hi

Hi Norbert

Some additional information;
Other crew member of Ju 88G-1 was Uffz Möller, injured after paraschute landing. …no additional info on this officer.
Glider pilot; Uffz Hans Schreiber born 19 July 1924 in Esborn in the Ruhr. Dog Tag 64 850 / 184. He was flying with 5fl.A.St.d.Lw 12/13 from Geinhausen.

….I am not sure what the glider unit abbreviation means…perhaps 5 Flieger A? Staffel der Luftwaffe 12/13.

regards

Ian

This is garbled. It should read 5./Flieger-Ausbildungsstelle d.Lw. 12/13 from Gelnhausen. Gelnhausen, 15 km to the ENE of Langendiebach and practically next door to it, was a big glider training center during the war. "12/13" refers to Luftgaukdo. 12/13, which was created on 30 January 1941 when Luftgau 12 and Luftgau 13 were consolidated. Both Gelnhausen and Langendiebach were located within the administrative territory of Luftgaukdo. 12/13. Glider training establishments were always designated as "Stelle". This one was either the predecessor of or a component of Segelausbildungsstelle für Flugzeugführerschulen A/B (1941-44) located at Gelnhausen.

Re: Another Nut To Crack

Thanks Ian and Larry,

and in additional Larry is right so far.

"5fl.A.St.d.Lw 12/13"

correct typing is

"Sfl.A.St.d.Lw 12/13"
(Segelflieger-Ausbiildungsstelle der Luftwaffe 12/13)

Gelnhausen Airfield is kind of specific corner for my researches since years. Propably i am waisting most of my retiring time in the future to come.

No Guts - No Glory :)

Cheers
Norbert
