8th Air Force Formations and PFF
I am researching 8th Air Force bomber formations in the April-May 1944 time-frame and have some questions.
I have found that there are many variations of the 'box' formation. Can anyone tell me what formation type was being used in the time-frame above? When was the term 'bomber stream' adopted and to which formation type did it apply? |

A good place to start is to get The Mighty Eighth War Manual by Roger A.Freeman - update in 2001 in paperback, by Cassell ISBN 0-304-35846-0
The author goes into a lot of detail concerning formation flying for the bombers and the fighters of the 8th AF. |

Re: 8th Air Force Formations and PFF
Thanks guys! I have Freeman's War Manual, and it's excellent, although I do find it a little too technical at times. There are also several details which differ from various details I have heard from veterans and other sources.
Thanks anyway. |
