ZG1 claims Oct.1942 Tuapse area

Hello,

were there ZG1 pilots' claims in the Tuapse area (34 Ost Qu.95xxx) on 4-9.10.42, except Börger's claim on October 6?

Best regards,
Andrey

Let me put the question differently. Is there any certainty that Börger's claim was the only Bf110's claim in the Tuapse area in those days, or could there have been others? What sources are there on this issue?

Best regards,
Andrey

Hi Aundrey

ZG1 starts using the daily mikrofilm system on 27th July 1942, the typed-out Staffel claims prior to this have never come to light.

THe last daily mikrofilm entries are for 16th July 1944. Between these two date , all the daily entries survive with the exception of January 1944, but a sub mikrofilm listing staffel claims does exist, but only giving date and time.

There is one other entry for your timeline:-

6th October 1942 Lt Kurt Krämer of 1./ZG1 claims a SB-2 at 1130 hrs 4000 metres altitude.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

thank you a lot! Comprehensive as always.

My question was prompted inter alia by the fact that a single-seat Il-2 was downed by Bf110 on 7.Oct.42. The pilot baled out after crossing the frontline, and perhaps the Germans didn't see their success.

Is the list of Bf110's claims in the well-known files of Tony Wood complete?

Kind regards,
Andrey

Hi Andrey

Tony Woods will have the Bf110 claims, but prior to the Dailymikrofilm entries almost all is missing, so prior to late July 1942 the whole of ZG2's, ZG52's and ZG1's are missing, and the only surviving typed-out mikrofilms are those for III./ZG26 and II./ZG76. Tony should be accurate with everything but the pilots names, they are often very difficult to read because of the handwriting and quality of the mikrofilms, but also he doesn't seem to know who flew within each staffel, with a list of pilots and their ranks the names can be worked out.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Hi Andrey

The daily mikofilms show the Luftwaffe had exactly twenty confirmed claims in the East for 7th October 1942, not only were none of these claims for ZG unit, but also there were no Il-2's, in fact only three of these twenty were bombers!

All the best

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

It looks like the Germans simply didn't see the pilot baled out from the damaged plane some time after the attack.

Kind regards,
Andrey
