Me109 windshield ?

Dear all,

I need your advise on these parts. They were found on a Me109G crash site (from 1/NAGr-13) in France.

1) The first part really seems to be the windshield. I am puzzled by the fact that we have twice the same part: was the 109 windshield made with two pieces of glass one on the other ? Thickness is 2 cm;

2) The second one reminds me of the opening on the engine cowl for the machine gun. Then, we should have green camouflage, and not grey. What do you think ? had NAGr-13 specific grey painting ?

Pilots :
GREGORITSCH, Franz Paul Ofhr 1/10/1923 Klagenfurt - 1/NAGr-13 Bf 109G Werk # 20680
HEBER Fritz, 11/02/1919 in Nauerhof, Leipzig - 1/NAGr-13 Bf 109G Werk 410257. Buried Block 9 Reihe 48 Grab 1177. Ploudaniel-Lesneven.

Any remark will be welcome.

Gilles,

Regarding the frontal windshield (am not a specialist) it "seems" there were two parts indeed

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic...l-not-accured/

Do agree with you that the other parts "looks like" the engine cowling part with the MG 131 orifice.

Amazing findings indeed....maybe very soon another part of the machine will arise with a werknummer or part-number so you will be able to positively identify the machine and pilot.

All the best from your friend,
Adriano

Re: Me109 windshield ?

Not Engine Cowl.

That is a rear fuselage skin, with access hatch.

Glass is Me109 armour glass for the front windscreen.

Re: Me109 windshield ?

could also be a lower wing skin.

Your photos is looking at the back side.

Salut Franck, thanks beaucoup for the picture

Harrison987, I wonder where could this hatch with grey paint be.
I cannot find the location.
Do you know some 109 "turnaround" with pictures under all angles, wheer we could trace it ?

Adriano, hélas, we have little chance to find more data or a plate to confirm the Wnr of the A/C.

Cheers to all.

Re: Me109 windshield ?

Maybe it is SiGla (Sicherheitsglas), made from different layers of glass. Depending on the number of layers it prevents full penetation of a projectile and injuries through glass splintering. This is valid for regular glass but should also be valid for acrylic glass.
The same construction features are used today with VSG (Verbundsicherheitsglas), with transparent film between the glass layers.

Re: Me109 windshield ?

Fuselage skin.

The opening is for a hatch 100%

I cannot tell the size, but it is either for the Fuel Filler, MW50, etc.

Re: Me109 windshield ?

For the location of the hatch, I am lucky to have a Me109G close to me in Blagnac at Aeroscopia museum,
I 'll take this hatch and walk around this aircraft, I hope I will find this way.

Thanks Roland and all, and I keep you posted;
