Leutnant "Munsch" erg./EKDO 25

Hi Guys

Another name to solve.

This for a claim for a B-17 on 8th March 1944 1442 hrs, name really looks like "Munsch" but I can find no loss for him within erg./EKDO 25, however this unit became JGr 10, I am wondering if there is a pilot with this name, or similar within this unit?

Kind Regards

Johannes

When you are doubtful about a German name, it's always worth trying a search at https://www.kartezumnamen.eu

If it comes up with none found it's a fair bet that you have misread the name. It's also useful where you have different spellings for the same person since you can at least see which is the most common version.

Johannes,

I have a note in my files that I took from Mombeeks "Sturmstaffel 1" book, that a Ltn Wilhelm Münch (DOB 13.06.22) transferred from Sturmstaffel 1 to EKdo25 in March 44 and was KIA 23.03.44 with this unit. I’ve had this guy penciled in as the claimant for the 08.03.44 claim.

The Officer database has this loss listed but mixed up with another person of the same name (a Hptm)

Regards,

Craig...

Many thanks Guys, and good work.

The mikrofilms do not have the umlaut, but it must be him. It would have been shared with Ofw Fink as the same anerk.nr occurs, only ever seen this before with JG2.

I do have some more questions about this unit. What were the forenames of Ofw Fink, and Ofw Brannicke, Lt Vessling and fates. Also have two other unidentified names(different handwriting than Münch, this is pure scrawl)

3rd February 1944 P-47 SE Twistringen 1145 hrs Lt "Driberg"
10th February 1944 B-17 SW Braunschweig 1140 hrs 2000m A.S.M Uffz "Gerdtz"

Let me know if you are likewise stuck on any yourselves.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Hi Leo

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

Regarding Erwin Hardtke, it should not be, certainly it was an Uffz.

Regarding Wilhelm Sbresny, it could well be, It's a strange name, I'll check another claim I have for him and get back to you.

Thanks again

Johannes

Hi Leo

Other claim for Sbresny is in good handwriting. But I studied the name for the 3rd February claim against the word "Thunderbolt" in the same handwriting and came up with "Kronberg"(could be Sbresny for all I know) it's a difficult one indeed.

Günter Fick, this could well be Günter Friedrich Wilhelm Michael Fick 25th April 1923 - 19th December 1944 of Kdo.I./JG 1(as Ofw June 1943) and 9./JG 4(as Leutnant September 1944). Five claims with these units. Aslo have a Günther Fick with 2./JG76 as a Leutnant October 1944.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Leutnant "Munsch" erg./EKDO 25

Hello Johannes,

Ofw Günter Fick of Ekdo./1 scored his first victory on 22 June 1943 (JFV Vol. 10/II page 84). The B-17 HSS on 8 March 1944 was his third victory (JFV Vol. 13/V page 23).

Lt Günther Fick of 9./JG 4 scored his first victory on 11 Sep 1944 (JFV Vol. 13/V page 436).

Regards
Leo
