unknown crash, 18th August 1940.

I have just been reading 'Romney Marsh at War' and came across a very interesting article which I have copied here:

18th August 1940.
Two other airmen in a further Messerschmitt who escaped without serious injury were returning from a raid when their plane was hit by AA fire as it passed over Brookland. Flying low in trouble over Lydd Camp, it was again fired on by Canadian troops carrying out Bren-gun training on the ranges, and crash-landed minutes later at Dengemarsh. Four lads, Bob Galloway, Billy and Charlie Wren and Jack Carpenter were out rabbiting in the vicinity. Jack recalls: First we heard gunfire from the camp; it was very close to the control (lookout) tower. We saw tracers hit the German plane and it came down at Podhill. We went across and we saw someone helping the crewmen out. One had been shot in the leg. The crew of a searchlight battery at Brickwall Farm came tearing across and told us they would take over. We hadn't even spoken to the Germans. Suddenly we heard this roar; there were hundreds of Canadian troops running towards us. They had been using the ranges and were in one big mass. These Canadians almost stripped the plane, taking everything as souvenirs. The camera and gun went. Suddenly some British officers arrived. They told the Canadians to leave things alone; they were told to sod off. These Canadians believed they had shot down the German plane with their Bren guns.

The only other Bf110 to come down near Lydd that day was:
Stab I/ZG26.
Messerschmitt Bf110C ( ). Escort sortie to England. Damaged by RAF Spitfires of 64 Squadron and force-landed on Dering Farm, north-west of Lydd, Kent, 1.45pm. Oblt. Rüdiger Proske (FF) and Uffz. Hans Möbius (Bf) both captured. Aircraft U8+BB a write-off.

From the positions given from the above report, the unknown Bf110 came down about 2 and a half miles south-east of Dering Farm, near Brickwall Farm.
I will try to attach a map I have added details too.

18th August is well documented, but I have not been able to find this crash mentioned in any books, so any ideas?

Sounds like another event which has been developed over the years. For example, how could they strip an aircraft in what would have been minutes? Proske's aircraft was photographed intact and his gunner was wounded which matches. If there was an aircraft, there would have been a report and it would have been included in LCA Vol 2. The only Bf 110s on land were Proske's and ones at Bonnington, Leysdown, Clacton, Lenham, Pluckley and Newchurch
