Seaplane - September 1945 - Quebec - ID sought

I refer to the picture in this link: https://www.ww2online.org/image/seap...an-forest-1945

Have trouble to ID the type, nor know if military or civilian.

Ideas welcome, thanks.

Leendert

Leendert, there is a description of these tests on page 3 of this link.

https://ufdc.ufl.edu/AA00026053/00001/1j

They describe the plane as a Waco floatplane.

"A Waco plane on floats and equipped with a spinner disk was used for the spruce budworm work at Kabonga, Quebec, which was conducted cooperatively by the Dominion Government and the Province of Quebec."

Not sure as to the model but possibly a UIC with floats or a YKS-6 or YKS-7 which are all very similar.

The supporting struts on the wings look the same to me between the two photos and the wing structures look the same.

Thanks for info. In a May 16, 1945 article in The Gazette from Montreal it transpires that the Waco was made available by Tom Wheeler of the in 2009 closed Gray Rocks Inn at Mont-Tremblant, Que.

There was a Gray Rocks Air Service. In the online Foreign Commerce Weekly, Vol. 21, p. 36 (Dec. 1, 1945) there is a reference to the DDT flights with the Waco.

Apparently CF-BDY, a Waco YKS-7. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/djipibi/8693847135

CF-BDY was officially registered to F.H. Wheeler, St Jovits, PQ on 28 May 1937.
Most probably he ran the service at Gray Rocks (or possible lent the aircraft to someone that did)
On 6 June 1947 the aircraft was re-registered to Wheeler Airlines Ltd, St Jovits, PQ and was not wfu until 24 April 1951 when the registration was cancelled.
After that it was sold to a couple of other individuals but all the time kept in storage.

I wonder what happened to it?

Cheers
Stig
