Airfield in Chongqing, China

No luck in the pre-WW2 forum so I'll try here.

In the ETH Zürich library there are some interesting photos from the travels of Jean de Voyod in China in the 1930s. Most are from 'Koen-Sa' airfield, on an island in the Yangtse 18 km downstream from Chongqing. Clearly this island is Guangyangba ( 29°34'03.3"N 106°42'39.5"E ) and when you google Guangyangba is indeed mentioned as the site of Chongqing's first airfield.

Koen-Sa is a French spelling, my question is, what would the old English and modern Chinese names be? I see nothing similar on Google or Bing Maps.

I gather that the Flying Tigers used another island upstream from Chongqing, Dazhongcun.

Any information on Jean de Voyod is also appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

I am sure you have found these sites but for the rest of us it gives some clues about Voyod, who sounds like a very interesting character:

Some of the photos he had collected (apparently from his albums/scrapbooks that were sold).

Search for Voyod: http://www.cazo.fr/wp-content/upload...R_22042015.pdf

A brief article on airfields in the area: http://english.cqnews.net/html/2014-...t_32033828.htm

Here is a 1945 map of the area: http://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/am...ing-h-48-q.jpg

It does show the airfield (not named) on the northern tip of the island.

I don't see any evidence of the airfield on Google Maps today:

Thanks for your effort, RSwank!

The airfields article calls it Guangyangba Airport.

If you google ETH-Bibliothek E-pics and search for Voyod, you can find more pictures. I uploaded two of them to AirHistory.net and will do some more over time.
