Hptm Fritz Hummel - Ritterkreuz

On October 19,1944, Hptm Fritz Hummel was awarded the Ritterkreuz. His unit was the "Jagdverband Leitstelle West".

Does anyone know why he was awarded the Knights Cross? What was the Jagdverband Leitstelle West?

A Leitstelle was usually a ground control station. I don't know about this particular one though.
