Photo Albatros B.III

Hello,

Currently on ebay at :

https://www.ebay.de/itm/3-alte-Foto-...EAAOSwHnpeRpgP

Is an interesting photo of Albatros B.III B.1195/15. Tghis is noteworthy as the nearest batch of Albatros B.III is normally recorded in published sources as starting at B.1138/15 and terminating at B.1192/15, although there appears to be evidence for B.1199/15 also.

Has anyone any further details of Albatros B.III in the range B.1193/15 to B.1199/15?

Under the same link are further WW.I aviation related photos.

Regards,

Clint

Excellent find!!
There has been speculations that 100 B.III were ordered, ie C.1100 - C.1199/15

No evidence of course....

Cheers

Hi Stig,

Yes, I was very pleased to find this one, as I always am with previously unknown serials.

An interesting point you make about the batch running B.1100/15 to B.1199/15. I'm ready to believe that it ends in B.1199/15, but Jack Herris in Albatros Aircraft of World War I vol.1 P.62 has B.1121/15 to B.1134/15 as Albatros B.II. I've seen photos of B.1123/15,B.1126/15 and B.1129/15 which support this.Though B.1134/15 may have been a a B.III.

Re: Photo Albatros B.III

As I said, only speculation

But, looking at bestellnummer summaries I find it hard that 1915 orders should have been done so haphazard.
By early 1915 it must have been pretty clear that the war which should have been over "by Christmas" wasn't.

Personally I believe all the gaps we can see should be filled in with the well known types that surrounds them.

Perhaps these "100" were of a mixed batch between B.II and B.III?

Cheers

Hi Stig,

An interesting thought.I have wondered about mixed production batches for Albatros B.II and B.III and not only for this batch of B.III either.

This may well be B.1165/15 although no 'B' is shown.
