I have an extensive archive of downloaded photos of Luftwaffe aircraft from old ebay auctions on my hard drive which I would gladly share publicly if I could find a suitable stable website. I initially intended to use Photobucket but

Google drive would be a good choise

I found some discussion groups but they seem to spring up and then quickly wither with monotonous regularity.

Have you tried with Flickr? Marc-Andre has his archive there since a couple of years and it seems quite stable. You can upload several photos at once too.

No, there were two very small pre-series: the Do 217A and the Do 217C.

I considered Flikr a few months ago but it seems that since they were bought out by Fantastic Fox Inc. they now only want photos actually taken by the account holder.

Their rules include: "Don't upload anything that isn't yours. Accounts that consist primarily of such collections may be deleted at any time."
In their FAQ I found: "Posting photos that you didn't take isn't allowed on Flickr. Accounts are deleted without warning for doing so."

Notice: Once a photo sells, ebay will replace it with some random photo.

It is disappointing that ebay deletes photos when they no longer need them, but it is a business and there is no profit in keeping sold items active.

Try Smugmug (smugmug.com). Not free, but the best. unlimited storage at full resolution.

Good point, Steven, about ebay, but they have made a few unannounced changes which are not helpful. In the case of a seller, there is now a screen that looks like it was prepared for stock market reporting, not the average person. When I called about this, I was told I could not get the old, simpler, easy to use screen back. Paypal has made a few unnecessary changes as well. Oh well.
