Ju-88 loss nearStrasbourg

Hi, at 01.34 hours in the morning of 29 July 1944 the crew of Lancaster KO-Z, LL944 flown by F/O. P.W. Bickford had a 'meeting' with a 'twin engined enemy aircraft' while on its way to bomb Stuttgart. The meeting was very short and ended with the loss off the German plane, identified a Ju-88. The location of this meeting was 48.55 N - 07.50E, roughly 8 - 10 km west of Strasbourg, near Molsheim. Can one of the members confirm this crash and identify the Junkers?

Thanks for reading

The only Ju 88 loss that I have, much further to the West, is:

Ju 88G-1 WNr.713649 of the 9./NJG 2, coded 4R+KT
Hptm. August Speckmann and crew (Bf Ofw. Arthur Boos, Bm Ofw. Wilhelm Berg) KIA 29.July 1944 (05:00) SSW of Toul, in an air battle. Bs Uffz. Otto Brüggenkamp – wounded, parachuted.

Aircraft recognition can be "iffy," and it's more difficult at night. It may not have been a Ju 88, and it may not have crashed.

Good luck in your search, GRM

The bombers claimed 24/5/11 night fighters and 100 Group fighters a further 3/1/1 (Destroyed/Prob Destroyed/Damaged)

Picking yours from the others is going to be fun, good luck

Martin
