Hptm Greiner crash 7/8 March 1945
On the night of 7/8 March 1945, Greiner took-off in Bf 110 G-4 (W.Nr. 160 127) to intercept RAF bombers raiding Dessau. Having made no contact with the bombers and beginning to run short of fuel, his aircraft suffered radio failure. Unable to home in on an airfield he ordered his crew to bale out. However, Greiner had difficulty exiting the aircraft and hit the rudder badly injuring his left knee and entangling his parachute in the trailing aerial of the aircraft. He finally managed to free himself and landed near a village in the Eifel region.
Any idea where in the Eifel, at what village Hptm Greiner came down? What were the names of the other crewmembers? J.D. |

Re: Hptm Greiner crash 7/8 March 1945
Hi Joerge,
I have Georg's original medical report written a short time after this particular incident. I will check to see if it gives any further details of the crash, if it doesn't i'll telephone him and ask him about the other crew members. i believe i know who they were but i'm away from my computer at the moment. I'll get back to you. |

Joerg,
On checking my records I believe Georg Greiner was flying with his usual crew. Bordschuetze - Unteroffizier Hans Maurer. Bordfunker - Feldwebel Rudi Hammerdoerfer. Both were uninjured. I will confirm this with Georg over the next few days. Hope this helps. |
