Fiat G.59 series a/c
Hello,
Seeking details of service of the Fiat G.59 from the G.55BM onward. Anything online or books that gives service details of each a/c including the two seat G. 55BM's. G.59's and G.59-1B two seaters. Used by Italy, Argentina, Egypt and Syria perhaps other Air forces . Thanks Alex |

Alex
Don't know about 'online', but there are a) Ali D'Italia No 10: Fiat G.55 (BTW what is a G.55BM? All my sources say that the two-seater was G.55B only. b) Aviolibri records n. 5: Fiat G.59 by Nicola Malizia (this one have a detailed list of all AMI accidents with the aircraft) Then of course you have Frank McMeiken's Midland book Italian Military Aviation which lists all Italian aircraft as much as he could back then. There are also some articles in various magazines, but uncertain if they actually say anything further. Cheers Stig |
Re: Fiat G.59 series a/c
Hello Stig,
Many thanks for the info. In regard to the G.55BM, I got the info from Air International - Fighter A to Z , page 258, vol 16 No 5 ( May 1979 ). " An Egyptian option on 18 G.55AM Fighters and two G.55BM two seat trainers" the "M" stood for Merlin. They ran out of DB606A's and used MerlinT.24-2. Some later a/c had bubble canopies also. Alex |
Re: Fiat G.59 series a/c
Ah yes Alex
Located the designations G.55AM and BM. They were shortlived early designations for the G.59A and B respectively. Was never used in real life.... Cheers Stig |
