L-5 victory
I think there was an L-5 crew in the last days of WW II in Europe that downed a Fi-156 with their .45 automatic pistols. Did this really happen? I am not sure. Thanks in advance.
i also think there was an occaition where a Bf 109 flew into the ground chasing one but, once again I am not sure. thanks in advance. |
Re: L-5 victory
The incident with the .45 automatic was in Cornelius Ryan's book on the battle for Berlin.

On 4/11/45 L-5 Pilot Lt.Duane Francies and Observer Lt. William Martin Fired their Colt 45s at a German Storch. The Storch crashed in a Pasture. They Landed nearby and Held 2 Crewmen Captive until American Tanks arrived. In Italy , a L-5 Pilot , Lt. "Dutch" Schultz was attacked by Me 109. He took evasive action and caused the Me 109 to crash into a Hill. Mike |
