night 17 to 18 july 1944
Hello,
for their missions against allied shipping in Channel in 1944, planes of KG26 and KG77, starting from Salon, Montpellier or Valence, made an intermediate landing for loading fuel (and sometimes torpedoes). During nights of 4 to 5 july and 6 to 7 july 1944, the airport of Cognac was used by both KG26 and KG77. For missions at the end of july and beginning of august, airports of Dole/Taveaux and Dijon/Longvic were used. But can someone tell me which airport was used for mission night 17 to 18 july 1944. Thanks in advance Claude |

Bonsoir,
For this precise mission, the answer is Tavaux, and the involved unit was the III./KG 77. Pierre |

Bonsoir Pierre,
thanks for the answer. I presume you have at your disposition a logbook of a member of III/KG77 ! May I ask you details on missions flown during june, july and august 1944 ? Thanks in advance Claude |
Re: night 17 to 18 july 1944
Ultra XL 2692 reports that 12 Ju 88s of I. and III./KG 77 were involved, plus 5 of III./KG 26. Also, 10 Do 217s of III./KG 100.

Thanks Nick !
In the Kriegstagebuch der Seekriegsleitun, is mentionned 18 Ju-88 LT operating over Channel ; it fits perfectly. III / KG26 was also operating this night, loosing 2 planes, one of 8/KG26 and one of 9/KG26. Claude |
