S (Stuart?) R (Richard?) BIRD 605 Sqn 1941
Hi guys
I am endeavouring to make a full identification of F/Lt S.R. BIRD, who was a flight commander with 605 Squadron in 1941. I am aware that he flew from an aircraft carrier to Malta in November 1941, but returned early January 1942 without seeing action. Which squadron/unit had he served with prior to joining 605 Sqn, as I note that he had one aerial victory (a Dornier) to his credit circa 1940/41, but no further information. To which command/unit was he posted on his return to the UK in 1942, etc? Any help appreciated. Cheers Brian |

Hi guys
Further to my appeal for help re S.R. Bird - Has anyone a copy of the 1941 RAF Officers list to establish correct name (if not Stuart Richard) and Service No. Cheers Brian |

Many thanks UDF
Obviously not 'Stuart Richard' then! There are several possibilities - but which one? He might be: 79563 D.R. 30093 F.D.G. 33526 F.R. 70064 S.P.V. 84951 W.A. 40361 W.D.W. Apparently 'my' Bird was Regular RAF - might that help identifying him by his Service No.? Of course, he was known as Dicky! Cheers Brian |
