S (Stuart?) R (Richard?) BIRD 605 Sqn 1941

Hi guys

I am endeavouring to make a full identification of F/Lt S.R. BIRD, who was a flight commander with 605 Squadron in 1941.

I am aware that he flew from an aircraft carrier to Malta in November 1941, but returned early January 1942 without seeing action.

Which squadron/unit had he served with prior to joining 605 Sqn, as I note that he had one aerial victory (a Dornier) to his credit circa 1940/41, but no further information.

To which command/unit was he posted on his return to the UK in 1942, etc?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Brian

Hi guys

Further to my appeal for help re S.R. Bird -

Has anyone a copy of the 1941 RAF Officers list to establish correct name (if not Stuart Richard) and Service No.

Cheers
Brian

Many thanks UDF

Obviously not 'Stuart Richard' then!

There are several possibilities - but which one?

He might be:
79563 D.R.
30093 F.D.G.
33526 F.R.
70064 S.P.V.
84951 W.A.
40361 W.D.W.

Apparently 'my' Bird was Regular RAF - might that help identifying him by his Service No.?

Of course, he was known as Dicky!

Cheers
Brian
